Common questions

Is Andrew Yang left or right?
Yang sits in the reform-minded center: a former 2020 Democratic presidential candidate best known for his $1,000-a-month universal basic income proposal, he formally left the Democratic Party in October 2021 and co-founded the Forward Party with former Republican New Jersey Governor Christine Todd Whitman. The party self-describes as "Not Left. Not Right. Forward," and Yang frames his project as procedural rather than ideological — open primaries, ranked-choice voting, and breaking the two-party "duopoly." Through 2025-2026 he has been actively building the party state by state: it won minor-party ballot status in New Mexico in May 2026, is fielding dozens of candidates in the November 2026 midterms, and has endorsed independent Senate candidates in states including Idaho, Colorado, South Dakota, and Montana. His policy instincts (UBI, healthcare access) still read center-left, but his organizational identity is now explicitly independent and centrist.
