Cenk Uygur is a Turkish-American political commentator, attorney, and the founder and host of The Young Turks (TYT), a progressive and left-wing populist online news program he launched in 2002. A self-described independent progressive, he co-founded the Justice Democrats PAC in 2017 and ran in the 2020 Democratic primary for California's 25th congressional district.

Uygur is the founder and lead host of The Young Turks and self-describes as an independent progressive; his politics are left-populist, combining progressive economics with fierce criticism of both parties' establishments. He ran briefly in the 2024 Democratic presidential primary, but since then has become one of the Democratic leadership's harshest left-flank critics, calling its leaders 'corporate robots' and urging a populist revolt at Turning Point USA's AmericaFest in December 2024 — outreach to right-populist audiences that continued with a lengthy January 2026 Tucker Carlson interview criticizing Trump's Israel policy. He remains substantively opposed to Trump, faulting his tariff rollout and cabinet picks as donor-driven rather than 'America First.' In 2026 he and his nephew Hasan Piker were barred from entering the UK, a decision both attribute to their criticism of Israel.
