In September 2024 the DOJ's Tenet Media indictment revealed he had been paid roughly $400,000 a month by a company covertly funded by Russian state media; prosecutors said Rubin and the other commentators were unaware of the funding source, and he described himself as a victim of the scheme. As of 2026 he remains an active pro-Trump voice, appearing in high-profile debate formats such as the Jubilee Media 'Surrounded' debate released at the end of May 2026.
