Ezra Klein is an American liberal political commentator and journalist. He has been a New York Times columnist since 2021 and is the host of The Ezra Klein Show podcast; he is a co-founder of Vox and was formerly the website's editor-at-large. He has written two books: Why We're Polarized in January 2020, and Abundance, cowritten with Derek Thompson, in March 2025.

Ezra Klein is a liberal journalist and New York Times columnist/podcaster who since March 2025 has been the leading voice of 'abundance liberalism' — the argument, made in his bestseller Abundance (co-written with Derek Thompson), that Democrats' own regulations and process obsessions block housing, infrastructure, and clean energy, and that liberals must prove they can build. That agenda has made him a central figure in an open factional fight inside the Democratic Party, positioned against the populist wing of Sanders, Warren, and Ocasio-Cortez, with allies describing the dispute as a battle for the party's direction. His influence is now practical as well as intellectual: Axios reported in late 2025 on his growing sway over Democratic strategy, and in May 2026 he moderated a housing-focused debate among California's Democratic gubernatorial candidates. He remains firmly within the liberal camp — his critique is of how liberals govern, not of liberalism itself.
