O'Keefe is a conservative activist-journalist whose defining method is the undercover hidden-camera sting aimed at government agencies, media, and progressive institutions — an approach that has built him a large following on the right and drawn litigation from people he has recorded. He founded Project Veritas in 2010, was removed by its board in February 2023, and now runs O'Keefe Media Group. His recent work includes the 2025 'Dating the Deep State' series, in which collaborators posing as romantic dates secretly recorded federal employees (including FBI, Secret Service, and DOJ staff) discussing their agencies; in March 2026, federal workers sued over those operations. OMG has also pursued election-fraud stings, including a Los Angeles cash-for-ballots investigation that the DOJ credited in a subsequent indictment and guilty plea, and school-related investigations as recently as June 2026.
