Is Jon Favreau left or right?
Favreau sits squarely in the Democratic coalition as a mainstream progressive: he was President Obama's head speechwriter (White House Director of Speechwriting, 2009-2013) and co-founded Crooked Media in 2017, where he co-hosts Pod Save America, an explicitly Democratic-aligned podcast. He is a partisan advocate rather than a neutral journalist, but in 2025 he emerged as one of the sharper internal critics of Democratic leadership — saying Biden should never have run for a second term and should have stepped down earlier, and calling Senate and House leaders Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries "pathetic" for hesitating to endorse Zohran Mamdani, then the Democratic nominee for New York mayor (Mamdani won and took office in January 2026). He has also urged Democrats to refuse AIPAC money, positioning him somewhat to the left of party leadership on that fight while remaining an institutionalist who works within the party. As of mid-2026 he continues hosting Pod Save America and his internet-culture show Offline.
