Soave is a self-identified libertarian: a senior editor at Reason magazine and, since 2020, a co-host of The Hill's daily commentary show Rising, where he holds down the right-of-center chair opposite left-leaning co-hosts (Lindsey Granger joined as co-host in August 2025, and he remains on the show as of July 2026). His work centers on free speech, civil liberties, criticism of campus and tech-platform censorship, and skepticism of government power from both parties — he has criticized COVID-era mandates and Republican speech restrictions alike. He is the author of two books on free speech and youth politics and does not identify with either major party. In July 2025 he publicly came out as gay when announcing his engagement.
