Tom Woods is a libertarian historian and podcaster in the Austrian-economics tradition, a senior fellow at the Mises Institute and longtime ally of former Congressman Ron Paul. On his long-running podcast The Tom Woods Show he argues against centralized government power, the Federal Reserve, and US military intervention abroad, and his early work such as The Politically Incorrect Guide to American History (2004) read US history through a paleoconservative lens skeptical of federal expansion. He self-describes as a libertarian rather than a conventional Republican, and has said he moved from middle-of-the-road Republican to full libertarian during his student years. In 2025 he has engaged with the Trump-era right from that vantage point, writing on how Austrian economists can advise the MAGA movement while maintaining his free-market, anti-interventionist critique.
